MORNING PRAYER (BRIEF FORM)

A BRIEF FORM FOR MORNING PRAYER

(For when brevity is needed or time is short)

Beginning Words
This is the day that God has made;
I will rejoice and be glad in it.

Opening Prayer
Eternal and Immortal One:
each new day is gift you give to us.
Like the morning dew that blankets the clover in radiant moisture,
your love embraces us in compassion and mercy.
Thank you, O God, for this day and this time to pray.
Amen.

The Gloria
Glory be to God in the highest,
and on earth peace, goodwill be to all.
O God, we praise You. We bless You. We adore you. We glorify You.
We give You thanks for Your great glory. O God Most High, Sovereign One of the Blessed Kin--Dom.

Psalmody
Sing to God a new song!
Sing to God, all the earth! 2 Sing to God, bless God’s Name!
Proclaim God’s salvation day after day; declare God’s glory among the nations,
God’s marvels to every people.
God is great, most worthy of praise, God is to be revered above all gods.
All the gods of the nations are a scam, they don’t exist—but God created the universe.
In God’s presence are splendor and majesty, in God’s sanctuary power and beauty.
Pay tribute to God, you tribes of the people; pay tribute to the God of glory and power.
Pay tribute to the glorious Name of God; bring out the offering, and carry it into God’s courts.
Worship God, in the beauty of holiness.
Tremble in God’s presence, all the earth!

Scripture
Let your regard toward one another be transformed by your being in union with the Beloved and Only Begotten One. Christ, though in the image of God,
didn’t deem equality with God something to be clung to—but instead became completely empty and took on the image of oppressed humankind: born into the human condition, found in the likeness of a human being.
Jesus was thus humbled—obediently accepting death, even death on a cross! Because of this, God highly exalted the Beloved and Only Begotten One,
and gave to Jesus the name above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee must bend in the heavens, on the earth and under the earth, and every tongue proclaim to the glory of God: Jesus Christ reigns supreme!
—Philippines 2. 5-11

Prayer For Faithfulness
Almighty God, in whom we live and move and have our being, you have made us for yourself, so that our hearts are restless until they find rest in you; grant us purity of heart and strength of purpose that no selfish passion may hinder us from knowing your will, no weakness from doing it; but that in your light we may see light, and in you service find perfect freedom. Amen.

The Prayer Of Jesus (adapted)
     Life-Giver, Pain-Bearer, Love-Maker.
Source of all that is and that shall be.
Father and Mother of us all,
Loving God, in whom is heaven:
The hallowing of your name echos
          through the universe!
The way of your justice be followed
by all peoples of the world!
     Your heavenly will be done
          by all created beings!
Your commonwealth of peace and freedom
sustain our hope and come on earth.
With the bread we need for today, feed us.
In the hurts we absorb from one another, forgive us.
In times of temptation and test, strengthen us.
From trials too great to endure, spare us.
From the grip of all that is evil, free us.
For you reign in the glory of the power that is love,
     now and forever. Amen.
—The New Zealand Prayer Book

Dismissal With Blessing (Jude 1. 23-24)
There is One who can prevent you from falling and make you stand pure and exultant in the presence of eternal glory. To God, the only God, who saves us through the Messiah, our Sovereign, be glory, majesty, authority and power—who was before all time, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
