DAILY MEDITATION FOR LENT

Psalms For Lent

A Daily Meditation For The 40 Days

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? —Isaiah 58:6

 2/17 Ash Wednesday—Day 1

Read Psalm 51:1-17

Theme: Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me. —Psalm 51:10

Almighty God, you have created us out of the dust of the earth: Grant that these ashes may be to us a sign of our mortality and penitence, that we may remember that it is only by your gracious gift that we are given everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Thursday 2/18—Day 2

Read Psalm 37

Theme: Trust in God [יהוה], and do good; so you will live in the land, and enjoy security. Take delight in God [יהוה], and God [יהוה] will give you the desires of your heart. —Psalm 37:3,4

Almighty God, you alone can bring into order the unruly wills and affections of sinners: Grant your people grace to love what you command and desire what you promise; that, among the swift and varied changes of the world, our hearts may surely there be fixed where true joys are to be found; in your mercy, O God, we pray. Amen.

Friday 2/19—Day 3

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Beloved and Anointed One to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; in your mercy, O God, we pray. Amen.
